Griffin (16-4) used his movement, reach and kicks to slow Jackson (28-7) and survived the champion's power shots in an action-packed mixed martial arts fight at Mandalay Bay Events Center.

The judges scored it 49-46, 48-46, 48-46 for Griffin.

In the co-main event, middleweight Patrick Cote won a split decision over Ricardo Almeida. Two judges scored the mixed martial arts fight 29-28 for the Canadian while the third had it 29-28 for Almeida, a Brazilian jiujitsu black belt.

The main event was a 205-pound matchup featuring the coaches on Season 7 of "The Ultimate Fighter" reality TV show. Griffin was the popular winner of the show in Season 1.

Griffin landed numerous leg shots early in the first round, but Jackson evened out the round by flooring Griffin with an uppercut.

In the second round, Griffin connected with a solid leg kick which appeared to injure Jackson. Griffin was then able to mount Jackson and conrol the duration of the round.

In a slow paced third round, Jackson was able to recover and in the fourth round both fighters exchanged punches with Jackson opening a cut above Griffin's right eye.

The two stood toe-to-toe in the fifth round with Jackson appearing to get the better of Griffin.

The victory for Griffin marks the first time a winner from the UFC's reality series captured a title belt.

Griffin made $250,000, including a $100,000 win bonus. Jackson collected $225,000.

"I think we're going to have to do that again. And that sucks for me," Griffin said.

"Every punch he threw hurt," added Griffin.

On the undercard, Gleison Tibau appeared to be in control of his lightweight matchup with Joe Stevenson through the first two rounds until Stevenson caught Tibau in a guillotine choke and forced him to tap at 2:57 of the second round.

Josh Koscheck used his superior athletic ability to maintain a dominant position throughout most of his fight with Chris Lytle. Koscheck left Lytle bloodied and battered and earned an unanimous decision victory with the judges scoring the bout 30-26, 29-27 and 30-28.

Tyson Griffin looked impressive in defeating Marcus Aurelio by unanimous decision with all three judges scoring the bout 30-27.

In the preliminary bouts, Gabriel Gonzaga made quick work of Justin McCully, easily securing a kimura and forcing him to tap at 1:57 in the first round.

Cole Miller submitted Jorge Gurgel by triangle choke with twelve seconds remaining in the fight.

Melvin Guillard dominated Germany's Dennis Siver, knocking him out just 36 seconds into the first round and Justin Buchholz defeated Corey Hill by rear naked choke at 3:57 of the second round.

I can't believe what I just saw!  I give Griffin full credit for the fight he fought, but come on.  Rampage took the first round, Griffin dominated the 2nd, Rampage won the 3rd, 4th, and the 5th.  Griffin's leg kicks were obviously the difference in the fight, but they shouldn't have led to a decision win.  Rampage hurt him throughout the fight, except the 2nd round.  ...(more)

Great job to Forrest Griffin for an excellent victory and kudos to Rampage for making it a hell of a fight.  I honestly didn't see it coming, but am happy to see a new wave of talent entering the cage.

Secondly, Dana White needs to get kicked in the nuts for the way he handles business.  This is the sleeziest guy in the business and what he pays his fighters go

"The victory for Griffin marks the first time a winner from the UFC's reality series captured a title belt."

This is what CBS allows into one of their columinsts articles? Where are the editors? Whether or not you like Matt Serra or not he was the winner of TUF season 4 and went on to defeat GSP for the WW title later that year.

(POLL) As a casual fan maybe I just dont understand, but the way that fight was scored was a difficult pill to swallow.  If I had $ on Rampage I would be pissed.  Rampage didnt even look like he got in a fight and Griffin looked beat up.  Rampage appeared to carry the fight for the most part.  So whats the deal?  Do people agree with the way the fight was scored?

THIS GRIFFIN WIN IS A JOKE.  TO TAKE THE BELT YOU MUST BEAT THE CHAMP NOT BE AGRESSIVE AND GET A GIFT.  SHERDOG HAS FOREST WINNING ROUNDS 2 AND 5 THATS IT.  RAMPAGE BUSTED HIM UP AND DROPPED HIM IN 1ST ROUND. MOUNT IN 2ND GRIFFIN DID NO DAMAGE. LEG KICKS WHO CARES.  THIS WAS A JOKER DECISION ROUND FIVE COULD HAVE BEEN RAMPAGES ALSO.  BISPING EUROPEAN HERO CRAP.ULTIMAT ...(more)

I think I called this one on June 18th...

Forrest was going to kick-box his way to victory.  For those of you who believe Rampage won the fight...?  You need to be the aggressor.  Rampage was backing up most of the fight.  He would try to throw his power punches as Forrest advanced.  At the same time, the champion can't keep backing up hoping for a one punch ...(more)

Grats to Griffin i really didn't think he could do it iam a huge rampage fan but even Jackson himself will tell you he didn't win that fight. What hurt Jackson was that second round it was for sure a 10-8 round, other than the main event the card was pretty weak.
