Movie scenes where a hero kicks MUCH ass.

Posted on: July 1, 2008 3:13 am

Hey Gang,

For those of us who love action scenes, THIS IS YOUR BLOG!!!  Submit your favorite moments (doesn't have to particularly be from an action movie per se, sometimes the best ass-kicking scenes come from other genres).  But the scenes where impossible odds face the hero, and the bad guys get their backsides handed to them, with one or more of the following:

Crashed/blown up cars

Exploding buildings

Broken bones/noses/splattering of the red stuff

People full of holes

Ridiculous property damage

Something on the order of the above is often action scene criteria.  I'll give you my example of a good whuppin':

A film called "The Ninth Configuration" is generally a drama, from 1980 starring Stacey Keach (who later provided ass-whuppin' as Mike Hammer) as a very troubled Vietnam vet who acts as a psychiatrist for other vets at a tower somewhere in the Northwestern US.  He is generally a nice guy; a kind, sensitive spirit.  But when he goes to a bar to help his friend who is beset by a gang, whose scummy leader wears mascara, he is beaten and humiliated to the point where his personality does a complete 180.  His rage knows no bounds, mercy, or gender (as 2 women in the gang find out).  Not a single gang member is left alive.  Stacey Keach, you're my hero!!!

Movie scenes where a hero kicks MUCH ass.

Retro, this is one that hits near & dear to me.  I've always liked action flicks, especially the good butt kicking ones.  I'll try to narrow down a few good ones.

  • Bullitt - The car chase scene.  Is there another car chase that compares to this one?  Although in reality, I don't think that Mustang would've ever been able to keep up with the Charger.
  • Dirty Harry series - Harry Callahan kicked butt in every one of these movies.  With his one liners and S&W 29 .44 Magnum, Dirty Harry shot first & asked questions later.
  • The Shootist - In his last movie, John Wayne delivers one last great shoot out at the end of the movie.
  • The Outlaw Josey Wales - Eastwood stars as a Missouri farmer who looses everything.  He kicks major butt all the way through this one.  My favorite line - "Dyin' ain't much of a livin'."
  • Death Wish - Charles Bronson was a pacifist, until his wife & daughter are savagely attacked.  Then he goes vigilante on all the thugs of New York.

Movie scenes where a hero kicks MUCH ass.

Great Blog Retro. I will give you two from a few more recent movies that happen to fall into my top 20 of all time.

V for Vendetta

As Evey is getting accosted by the "finger men" V comes out of nowhere and after throwing out a line that would confuse the most astute scholar " We're oft to blame, and this is too much proved, that with devotion's visage and pious action we do sugar on the devil himself. " He goes about beating the tar out of them . Great Scene from a great movie.

The Crow

After having killed the mojority of the gang that murdered his beloved, Eric Draven (The Crow) walks into the room , which is full of 80 or so really bad guy , all with guns, and jumps up and sits at the end of the table. The leader of the henchmen (Top Dollar) says "So you're him, huh?... The Avenger, The Killer of killers. Nice outfit, not sure about the face though?" to which Eric replies " I only want him" and points to the last of the gnag members that helped kills his Shelly. Top Dollar says no and the next 3 minutes are some of the best gun play and hand to hand to be in a movie in a while.

Thanks again for the blog Retro

Movie scenes where a hero kicks MUCH ass.

Well retro I don't think you can talk about movie characters kicking butt without mentioning the original Kung Fu master Bruce Lee. If you didn't have a gun you didn't stand a chance against him. I always wondered why the 10th guy after seeing him dispatch all the others with such ease would go after him.

I also love any scene where Steven Seagal kicks ass. He doesn't waste time, he justs breaks bones quickly and moves on to his next victim.

Movie scenes where a hero kicks MUCH ass.

I'm gonna go with the Ridiculous Property Damage in Bad Boys II, when the Boys are chasing the hatians down the freeway. Everything that was in the hatians path was destroyed...there were flying cars, explosions and even a flying boat! It was chaos, but sweet chaos! Even the shootout prior to that is ridiculous action. I'm all fired up now, so I'm gonna go watch it. Great Post!
